Parcel shows Delivered but you didn't get it? What to do

Tracking says delivered but there's no parcel? Check these places first, then contact the courier and the seller in the right order, with the right details.

In short: first check with family, neighbours, the security guard and any reception desk, because "Delivered" often means the parcel was handed to someone else at your address. If it isn't there, contact the courier the same day with your tracking number, then the seller (if you bought it online). Act quickly: complaints are easier to resolve while the delivery is recent.

Why tracking can say "Delivered" when you don't have the parcel

The "Delivered" status is recorded by the delivery person, usually on a handheld device, when they mark the parcel as handed over. Most of the time it is accurate, but the parcel can still be somewhere you haven't looked. Common reasons:

  • Someone else received it: a family member, flatmate, neighbour, office reception or building security.
  • It was left at a common point: a society gate, a mailroom, a shop nearby or a parcel locker.
  • Marked early: the delivery person marked several parcels as delivered before finishing the route, and yours is still on its way that day.
  • Wrong address: a similar flat number, a neighbouring building or the same name in another lane.
  • A real problem: the parcel was misplaced or not delivered at all. This is less common, but it does happen, and it's why reporting quickly matters.

Check these places first

  1. Ask everyone at the address: family, flatmates and anyone who was home during the day.
  2. Ask the security guard or reception: many buildings and offices collect parcels at the gate.
  3. Ask your neighbours, especially if your flat or house number is easy to confuse with theirs.
  4. Look at the delivery time in the tracking history on Track My Ship. If it was marked delivered in the last few hours, wait until the end of the day: it may still arrive.
  5. Check the delivery message: some couriers and sellers send an SMS or email with the name of the person who received the parcel, a photo or a delivery OTP.

Contact the courier

If the parcel still isn't found, contact the courier. You will need:

  • the tracking number (AWB / consignment number);
  • the delivery date and time shown in the tracking;
  • your full address and phone number;
  • a short, clear statement that you did not receive the parcel.

Ask them to check with the delivery person and to share proof of delivery — many couriers record a signature, a name, an OTP or a photo at handover. Note the complaint or ticket number they give you.

Official courier websites list their customer care contacts, for example DTDC, Blue Dart, Delhivery and India Post. Track My Ship is an independent tracking website, so we can't open a complaint or change a delivery for you.

If you bought it online, contact the seller too

For an online order, the seller (or the shopping website) booked the courier and is the courier's customer, so they can usually push the investigation further than you can. Open the order in the app or website and raise a "not received" issue, quoting the tracking number and the courier's complaint number. Sellers usually have a time limit for reporting a missing delivery, so don't wait.

If it still isn't resolved

If neither the courier nor the seller sorts it out after you have given them reasonable time, you can register a complaint with the National Consumer Helpline run by the Government of India: call 1915 or file online at consumerhelpline.gov.in. Keep screenshots of the tracking, your messages and any complaint numbers — they make every step easier.
